President Xi Jinping Holds Talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan

On the afternoon of August 24, 2026, President Xi Jinping held talks with His Majesty King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, who is on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

President Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of their diplomatic relations, China and Jordan have all along respected each other, treated each other as equals, and pursued mutually beneficial cooperation, providing a living example of win-win cooperation and mutual learning between countries with different social systems and of different sizes. In 2015, we jointly announced the establishment of a China-Jordan strategic partnership, opening a new chapter in the bilateral relationship. Facing the fluid and turbulent global and regional situation, developing a China-Jordan relationship with greater substance and vitality meets the common aspiration of the two peoples, and aligns with the prevailing trend of Global South countries seeking strength through unity. The two countries should carry forward their long-standing friendship, enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and intensify multilateral coordination to further advance the China-Jordan strategic partnership, and make positive contributions to peace, stability and prosperity of the region.

President Xi Jinping stressed that China attaches great importance to Jordan’s unique and important role in the region. China firmly supports Jordan in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, and stands ready to strengthen exchanges with Jordan at all levels, including between their governments, political parties and legislative bodies and at the subnational level, and enhance experience sharing on governance. China-Jordan cooperation is essentially mutually beneficial and win-win. The two sides should further strengthen alignment of development strategies, step up cooperation in the traditional fields of economy and trade, infrastructure, transport and mining, expand new growth drivers in the digital economy, artificial intelligence, green energy and other sectors, comprehensively deepen exchanges in education, culture, science and technology and tourism, and increase people-to-people exchange to strengthen the bond between the two peoples. China stands ready to work with Jordan to implement the four global initiatives, strengthen coordination and collaboration in the U.N. and other multilateral institutions, jointly safeguard the U.N.-centered international system and international order underpinned by international law, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

King Abdullah II noted that China is a great country and he respects the enormous achievements China has made under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. Jordan and China have forged a strong strategic partnership, and the two sides have always respected each other and maintained close coordination with productive cooperation across various sectors. Jordan is firmly committed to the one-China policy, and believes that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Jordan highly values its relations with China. It seeks to deepen cooperation and exchanges with China across sectors including economy and trade, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, pharmaceuticals, culture and education, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Jordan, for the shared development and prosperity of the two countries. Jordan applauds the four global initiatives put forth by President Xi Jinping, and looks forward to China’s greater leading role on the global stage.

The two heads of state exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East. President Xi Jinping stressed that China all along advocates a comprehensive ceasefire and end of hostilities, and resolving disputes through political and diplomatic means. China believes that the sovereignty and security of Jordan and all other countries in the region should be respected. The Palestinian question is the core of the Middle East issue, and efforts to resolve it should be guided by four principles. First, we must uphold political settlement, adhere to the two-State solution as the right direction, work for the resumption of peace talks between Palestine and Israel, and realize the early establishment of an independent State of Palestine. Second, we must uphold the principle of Palestinians governing Palestine. Palestine is the homeland of all Palestinians. The principle of Palestinians governing Palestine should be followed in advancing the governance of the West Bank and postwar reconstruction of Gaza. Third, we must uphold humanitarianism. The international community, particularly the U.N. Security Council, should truly take up the responsibility to keep civilians safe, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and put an end to humanitarian disasters. Fourth, we must uphold fairness and justice. We should act on the basis of international rule of law, aim at addressing both the symptoms and root causes, and take practical actions to realize a comprehensive, just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian question at an early date.

King Abdullah II said that Jordan highly commends China for upholding justice on Middle East affairs and supporting the just cause of Arab countries. China’s just position is very important to countries in the region. Jordan will maintain close communication with China, continue to work actively for de-escalation, and bring peace and prosperity to all people in the Middle East.

Following the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents in areas including foreign affairs, economy and trade, industrial and supply chains and judicial cooperation.

The two sides issued the Joint Statement Between the People’s Republic of China and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Deepening the China-Jordan Strategic Partnership.

Prior to the talks, President Xi Jinping held a welcoming ceremony for His Majesty King Abdullah II at the Northern Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

As His Majesty King Abdullah II arrived, honor guards lined up in salutation. After the two heads of state stepped onto the reviewing stand, the military band played the national anthems of China and Jordan. A 21-gun salute was performed on the Tiananmen Square. His Majesty King Abdullah II reviewed the guard of honor of the People’s Liberation Army and watched the march-past in President Xi’s company.

On the same evening, President Xi Jinping held a welcoming banquet for King Abdullah II at the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People.
